How to rewaterproof your rain jacket Your jacket may need to have its DWR water repellent coating restored every 3-6 months if you're wearing it often. You can test your jacket by seeing if water beads on the surface or absorbs into the fabric. Sometimes a wash can remedy this, but it may be time for reactivating or reapplying the DWR. You can “reactivate” the DWR coating by exposing the jacket to heat after washing it.
